Equine Emergency / Claims

  1. Immediately contact your veterinarian.
  2. Immediately report emergency and/or loss.
  3. Obtain an necropsy and postmortem examination (do not remove animal from premise prior to autopsy).
  4. In cases of theft, shooting or vehicular involvement call the police and request a copy of the report .
  5. Emergencies or Claim - Immediate notice of illness or injury must be given to claims adjuster listed below and to us.
  6. Euthanization - Permission must be obtained to euthanize an insured animal. In extreme emergency situations, consent to euthanize is not required if it is not possible to report at the time and an attending veterinarian states that immediate euthanasia is necessary to prevent inhumane suffering.
  7. Emergency Surgery - In the event of emergency surgery (necessary to save the life of an animal) and there is not sufficient time to call the claims adjuster or agent, permission is not necessary. However, notice within a reasonable period of time is required.

Equine Claims Checklist:

  1. Gelding a horse - you must obtain permission in advance.
  2. Elective Surgery - you must obtain permission in advance.
  3. Pre-existing conditions must be disclosed before insurance coverage goes into effect.
  4. The animal must be healthy at the inception date insurance.
  5. Proper medical care must be given to all insured animals. All steps must be taken to save the animal's life.
  6. Nerving a horse without notice and consent will result in loss of coverage.
  7. Medications must be given by a qualified veterinarian or experienced person under the direction of a qualified veterinarian.
  8. Entry of an animal in a claiming race or a lower valued claiming race or Public Auction will automatically reduce the amount of coverage.

Please furnish these procedures to anyone having care, custody or control of the insured
animal(s). Failure to comply with the policy terms and conditions could jeopardize your coverage.
